We have heard it declared--it shall be a rule,There shall be at no time, in the public school,When observing the twenty-fifth of December,A religious thought of a Christ remembered.No Virgin Mary, no newborn stranger, No heavenly host, no Bethlehem manger.No shepherds watching their flocks by night,No star appearing with its heavenly light.No “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,”No wise men with their gifts to bring.No “Joy to the World” or “Silent Night,”The government says it’s just not right.No “O Little Town of Bethlehem” they’ll hear,Scratch, “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear,”Positively no “Angels from the Realms of Glory,”And summon the guards!
