George Abbas, a published poet, has for years written thought-provoking prose that causes one to stop, think, and change for the better. His homey blend of entertaining humor does not mask the underlying significant messages. Everyone needs to read these poems. They’ll laugh, cry, and then get inspired to do better for themselves, and for those they love.

Consider the lowly tadpole swimming in the slimy bog.
Wonder if he really knows that one day he will be a frog.
Or with a little bit of evolutionary luck,
He might even someday become a duck.

Merry “X” Mas
We have heard it declared–it shall be a rule,
There shall be at no time, in the public school,
When observing the twenty-fifth of December,
A religious thought of a Christ remembered.
No Virgin Mary, no newborn stranger,
No heavenly host, no Bethlehem manger.
No shepherds watching their flocks by night,
No star appearing with its heavenly light.
No “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,”
No wise men with their gifts to bring.
No “Joy to the World” or “Silent Night,”
The government says it’s just not right.
No “O Little Town of Bethlehem” they’ll hear,
Scratch, “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear,”
Positively no “Angels from the Realms of Glory,”
And summon the guards! NO Christmas story.
And so it goes with the children of earth,
Outlawing Christ’s name on the day of His birth.
No Christ in Christmas? It surely must be
The nuts aren’t all in boxes under a Christmas tree.
At the risk of being psychologically put upon
As some variety of hickory, cashew or pecan,
May we simply come right out and say a word
Of praise this season for our Savior and Lord.
